The Davao Jaycee Senate

ImageThe seed of what is now known as the Davao Jaycee Senate started in 1969.  Some 39 years ago, a handful of pioneers in the Junior Chamber of Davao decided to form the Davao JCI Senate Club (later without ‘Club’).  These founders became the charter members of the new group. The idea was primarily anchored on two valuable themes: a lifelong association with the Jaycee movement and an unflinching pursuit of the principles of the organization.

To ensure that the new club’s infant steps were on right track, the founding members, who loosely called themselves as the fellowship group, unanimously chose JCI Sen. Ramon ‘Monet’ A. Tirol as their First President (1969-70).  A year later, he was elected as the club’s charter president.  Tirol later became the 1971 Constitutional Convention Vice Chairman, and was recently appointed as Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.

Garvin Jeng is 2010 President

“A good leader is a good follower”

JCI Senator Garvin Jeng started his Jaycee career in 1990, and worked his way up to become the President of the Greater Davao Jaycees in 1994. His indefatigable commitment paid off when he was awarded the Senatorship in 1995. Garvin, tireless as he is, and braver and bolder than ever, went on to serve as the National Vice President for Southern Mindanao of JCI Philippines in 1996. Dedicating a whole decade serving the Senate is definitely one for the books. Since his conferment to the Davao Jaycee Senate, he has served 10 Senate Presidents, and was elected Vice President and National Convention Treasurer in 2009. Twenty years as a JCI member and celebrating his 10th year as a Board Member of the Davao Jaycee Senate, this “20-10” term may just prove to be a perfect year for President Garvin to handle the reins of leadership of this prestigious Senate chapter.
